Method of Play
In a game of poker, you play against human opponents, all of you trying to come out with the best hand at the end of the game. The fine points of bluffing and playing your hand come into play. With video poker, you are simply playing against a machine, much like slots. There is very little skill involved as you proceed through each round in an attempt to build the best poker hand. The only significant similarity between these two games is in the hand rankings which will be familiar to anyone who has played poker before.
Betting Rules
The betting rules for online poker and video poker are very different. In a traditional game of poker, you will bet on every turn. With video poker, on the other hand, you bet only once before you begin playing the game. Once you have started the game, you cannot change your bet to suit your hand.
Despite the similarity in the names, these two versions of poker are very different. Social players will always want to turn to a more traditional game of online poker where there are other players in the game. Players who want a taste of poker in a more solitary setting may enjoy exploring video poker instead.
